Dutch Wind Music Award 2007 for Johan de Meij
De Meij receives this prestigious award for his important role in the advancement of Dutch wind music and its increased recognition throughout the world.
Johan de Meij (Voorburg, 1953) studied trombone and conducting at the Royal Conservatory of Music at The Hague. He is internationally recognized as a composer and arranger with an oeuvre consisting of original compositions, symphonic transcriptions and arrangements of film scores and musicals.
The Sound of Winds in Crystal The prize included a specially designed crystal art piece: The Sound of Winds in Crystal, designed by Royal Leerdam Crystal. The first six notes of De Meij’s Symphony No. 1, The Lord of the Rings are embedded into the crystal. The laureate also received a diploma and a cheque of 3500 Euro ($ 5,000.-Previous recipients of the Dutch Wind Music Award include composer Henk van Lijnschooten (2003) and conductor Jaap Koops (2005).
